Dr. Kim is a Radiation Oncologist at Turville Bay. She graduated from New Jersey Medical School, completed residency at Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology and Biophysics and did her Fellowship in Radiation Oncology with Harvard Medical School Massachusetts General Hospital. In this interview, Dr. Kim shares why she feels working with patients is a privilege and why many nights you can find her ballroom dancing.
How did you end up working in Radiation Oncology?
I was drawn to the depth of engagement with oncology patients and their family members. I also enjoyed radiation physics.
What would you like colleagues to know about Radiation Oncology?
Being a part of a patient's journey through a major crisis is truly a privilege. I enjoy sharing the path with my patients - helping them accept their destination, whatever that may be.
What advances do you most look forward to in Radiation Oncology or cancer care?
I would like to see more advancement in targeting tumors, especially those that move during treatments. By increasing precision, it would allow us to shorten the patient’s treatment course – being less interruptive to their lives.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy the simple things in life. Listening to quiet music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies. Gardening allows me to be out in the fresh air and sunshine and helps me replenish my mental and physical energy. It also allows me to be creative – designing my perfect sanctuary. My greatest enjoyment comes from ballroom dancing as it keeps me in touch with the soft and tender side of myself. I spend 3-4 nights a week in an Arthur Murray dance studio – gliding to the gentle music of waltz.
How would your friends describe you?
I am passionate about everything I do. I am thankful for my life and enjoy each and every day.
Who inspires you?
I admire those who give their very best in both their professional and personal lives. Those who continually strive for excellence in whatever they are involved in tend to shine. I feel so fortunate to work with so many of these individuals at Turville Bay.
