A groundbreaking technology became available in the early 1980’s. We know it today as Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI and it has changed the way we find and diagnose a host of issues from the tiniest tear to a serious illness. MRI was different because it produced rather clear and detailed computerized images of the inside of the body without using x-ray. In 1986 an MRI clinic was opened where the current Turville Bay center now stands and a magnet was installed. Physicians quickly found the value in it, and MRI rapidly gained acceptance.
Today, Turville Bay MRI & Radiation Oncology Center operates the most powerful magnets available for clinical use. The images are sharp and detailed with a clarity never thought possible when the technology was first developed. There are now 4 MRI suites in operation: at the John Nolen Drive center, inside UnityPoint Health-Meriter and within SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital-Madison, and on Deming Way in Middleton. Staffed by highly trained and compassionate technologists, Turville Bay has built an excellent reputation for providing exceptionally clear images to Madison area physicians.
